Scribomatic is operated by Manicgrin Media Ltd.
Writing on this device
If you choose “this device”, your manuscript stays in your browser. We do not receive it.
Encrypted online storage
If you create an account and choose encrypted online storage, we store an encrypted copy of the book. Encryption happens in your browser with a vault passphrase you choose. We cannot read the contents. We also store your email address, a password hash, and a public salt used for encryption.
Your login password is not the vault passphrase. Resetting the login password cannot recover encrypted books. If you forget the vault passphrase, the online copy is unreadable.
Trash
When you delete a book it goes to trash for 30 days. Encrypted online books stay on our server as ciphertext until then, or until you empty trash or delete your account. We still cannot read them. Books stored on this device stay in this browser only; clearing site data removes that trash too. The 30-day clock for this-device trash only runs while you have the app open.
Accounts
An account is optional. It is only required for encrypted online books.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your writing.
- We do not use your manuscripts to train models.
- We do not put analytics on the writing app.
Plus and payments
Plus is an optional monthly subscription, billed by Stripe. We receive your email and payment status. We do not store your card details.
Audio import and in-browser recording send only that clip to OpenAI Whisper, receive a transcript, then delete the file from our server. The recording stays on your device until you choose to transcribe. We keep a running total of seconds used in the current month so we can apply the allowance. We do not keep the recording, and we do not send the rest of your book.
Handwriting import sends only the photo you choose to OpenAI, receives a transcript, then deletes the image. We do not keep the photograph, and we do not send the rest of your book.
Editorial review (Plus) sends the section you choose, plus any story notes you have filled in (ages, point of view, cast, outline), to Anthropic. Plot chat (Plus) sends those story notes and the plot conversation, not the manuscript. We do not store that text on our server. The manuscript is not changed unless you edit it yourself.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your account. Email hello@manicgrin.com. Deleting the account removes encrypted copies from our server, including books in trash. Copies on your devices are yours to delete.
